About APF

The African Pharmaceutical Forum (APF) is the FIP sixth Regional forum of National Pharmaceutical Organizations in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) African regional office. The forum was founded in May 2004 in the capital of Zimbabwe.

Strengthening our vision is African Pharmaceutical Forum's (APF) primary objective to encourage and support positive collaboration among regional and national pharmaceutical associations in the WHO African region. APF strives toward improving health in the African region by development and enhancement of good pharmacy practice. Tasked with integrating appropriate WHO policies into undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing education programme in pharmacy, APF strategically plans and executes national and regional projects that will have direct impact in improving Pharmacists' roles in healthcare delivery.

    Post Graduate Diploma in Global Health Procurement and Supply Chain Management

    The course addresses one topic area per month, starting with a module on introduction to PSM and ending with PSM support functions and systems. Eventually, the candidate will work on a ‘problem-solution-related case study linked to their own organization or country.

    Global Fund & Empower: Financial evaluation of investments in public health supply chains

    The Financial Evaluation of Investments in Public Health Supply Chains course is jointly developed by Global Fund and Empower School of Health. It is designed specially to cater to the needs of professionals working in the field of public health supply chains who need to make financial evaluation, by comparing both the costs and the consequences, of the various investment options and, at the same time, comparing then with alternative courses of action to guide their decisions about the cost-effectiveness of their investments and an efficient use of scarce resources.

    Certificate Course on Product Selection in Public Health

    This certificate course program familiarises the learner with the wide spectrum of health commodities deployed in public health programs. It provides an overview of the reasons and mechanism for undertaking good medicine selection, strengthening of understanding of the essential medicines concept and developing knowledge of the mechanisms used for National Essential Medicine Lists.

    In this course students will be able to gain knowledge of the key elements involved in storage and distribution of medical materials and the importance of cost analysis techniques in guiding decision making for effective and efficient systems. It will also help the learners to gain valuable insights into the distribution cycle and the most optimal distribution systems.

    Certificate Course on Effective Use of Medicine in Public Health

    At the end of this course, learners will be able to comprehensively understand the negative impact of irrational use of medicines for patients as well as finances. Students can learn the concepts of rational medicines use, its impact upon quantification and medicine availability, and value for money; and basic techniques to address major issues.
